Benjamin Schuessler, Ph.D. founded Applied Decon LLC to bring a disciplined, research-informed approach to biohazard cleanup and decontamination—work that demands clear thinking, controlled execution, and respect for the people and environments involved.
Benjamin earned his degrees from Washington State University and has spent most of his career in materials research. An electron microscopist by trade, his work has required a high level of precision, documentation, and process control—often in environments where contamination awareness and safety practices are non-negotiable. He has also worked with radiological materials, reinforcing the importance of careful planning, exposure control, and consistent procedures.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Benjamin served as a volunteer firefighter for three years. That experience shaped his understanding of what real service looks like: showing up when things are hard, staying calm under pressure, and doing the right work the right way—especially when the stakes are high and people are overwhelmed. He later stepped away from the fire service to prioritize time at home with his wife and daughter.
Even after leaving, the desire to contribute never went away. Applied Decon is Benjamin’s way of returning to public service—by building a company that puts his full background to work: scientific discipline, high-stress operational experience, and an uncompromising focus on safe operations in critical environments.
In practice, that means Applied Decon is built around:
- Methodical, process-driven remediation
- Containment and cross-contamination control
- PPE discipline and exposure reduction
- Procedures aligned with the IICRC S540 standard of care (Trauma & Biohazard Cleanup)
- Clear documentation and communication
- Discretion and professionalism in sensitive situations
Applied Decon exists for the moments when safety and trust matter most—so clients can move forward with confidence.
